For the Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth, Directional and Carter family of companies, preserving our planet for generations to come is not a fad or recent development but rather it has been a part of our corporate culture for decades. We manufacture the highest quality furniture, each piece by hand and with minimal impact on natural resources. Our sustainable practices continue to evolve and are a part of who we are and what we believe. We are dedicated to service to our customers, adherence to superior quality standards, fresh and unique designs - all while ensuring we walk softly on the planet.
Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth, Directional and Carter
are members of the Sustainable Furniture
Council. The SFC is a coalition of furnishings
manufacturers who are committed to minimize
carbon emissions and waste stream pollutants while
increasing recyclable content of products.
As our family of companies continues to grow and the business within each individual company increases, our footprint continues to decrease. Tomlinson was originally housed in a 500,000 square foot company, Directional in a 175,000 facility and Carter in a 150,000 plant. Today, all of our companies are housed in a 125,000 facility in Thomasville, NC. Our manufacturing process continues to become more efficient reducing our footprint and saving resources.
Air quality in our plant surpasses requirements from the EPA and our emissions into the atmosphere are negligible. We have converted all of our oil and coal burners into cleaner-burning natural gas. Our lacquers are all water-based and contain no lead. We follow safe and responsible disposal practices.
Our furniture frames are manufactured with wood from well- managed forests where timber plantings and growth outpaces the harvesting of trees. The production of frames is carried out in a highly efficient way for maximum yield and minimizing waste.
The high quality springs in our products are made of recyclable steel. The manufacturing of these springs uses no chemicals or hazardous materials.
The polyurethane foam used in our cushions is 20% soy and there are no chlorofluorocarbons and no methylene chloride. These soy-based cushions reduce energy and oil consumption in manufacturing and are also domestically grown. We also utilize natural down feathers and cotton ticking.
As often as possible, we choose to use 100% natural fabrics for our upholstery such as cotton, wool and linen.
All of our furnishings are shipped using recyclable materials.
